Burnt Butter Caramilk Chip Cookies
I was watching a travelling/cooking show today and I had the sudden urge to reactivate my food and recipe blog, but alas, I deleted it a few months ago, so I’m starting all over again!
For some reason browned butter cookies stuck in my head so I decided to try and make my own version. I’ve called them ‘burnt’ butter though because it sounds more dramatic, and if I’m really honest, it’s pretty easy to get the butter from brown to burnt if you don’t keep an eye on it! It reminds me of something my Dad used to say whenever he was barbequeing (or braaiing in South African speak) referring to the barbequed meat…’if it’s brown it’s burnt, if it’s black it’s buggered!’
Anyway, moving along…I actually didn’t have regular dark or milk chocolate chips but found a packet of Cadbury Caramilk Baking Chips in the back of the cupboard, hence this version.
The recipe uses both granulated and soft brown sugar, which, along with the burnt butter and Caramilk baking chips add to the rich, caramelised flavour of these cookies….dangerously delicious!!
Ingredients mixed with a wooden spoon until just combined and I loosely formed the tablespoons of dough into balls and pressed them down slightly onto the baking sheet.
